Women's Basketball Remains Unbeaten on European Tour with Overtime Victory

 

5/27/06 -- Sophomore Mikaelar Whippy (Suva, Fiji) scored 24 points on 11-for-16 shooting to help lead Long Island University to an 86-77 overtime victory over Ragusa Dubrovnik in Split, Croatia on Saturday.

Against the third-ranked Division I team in Croatia, the Blackbirds mounted a second-half comeback which saw them erase a seven-point halftime deficit. Junior Brittani Kozik (Belle Plaine, Iowa) added nine points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in the win.

Trailing 42-35 at the half, junior Sonya Coleman (Toledo, Ohio) led an inspired rally with all 13 of her points coming after intermission. Junior Masa Susic (Zenica, Bosnia & Herzegovina) added 18 points, including four three-pointers, and seven rebounds for the Blackbirds, who improve to 4-0 on their tour.

Long Island will face Ragusa Dubrovnik in a rematch on Monday, May 29.
