Long Island University Women’s Basketball Head Coach
Stephanie Gaitley announced today that Connie James (Galloway,
N.J.) has signed a National Letter-of-Intent and will play
for the Blackbirds this season. Jones, a
5-foot-8 guard, comes
to LIU from Absegami High School, where she averaged 11.4
points per game.
James was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Absegami, where
she captained the team that won two state championships.
She was ranked as the top defensive player by the Newark
Star Ledger in 2006 and was twice named a Cape Atlantic League All-Star.
James was also recognized for her on-court efforts by being
named to all-star teams by the Courier Post and the Press
of Atlantic City.
James has also spent time playing for several AAU teams,
including the Philadelphia Belles and the SJ Panther All-Stars.
She also
became the first female in Galloway Township to tryout
and play football in the Galloway Township League.
The Blackbirds are slated to begin play on Nov. 11, when
they host St. Peter’s.
