Day 2
Today is Sunday, May 21, 2006 and we are visiting
Italy. The day could not have been more beautiful because the
sun was shining
bright with bright blue clouds, and the weather wasn’t
too hot or too cold. It was picture perfect. Our team got up
and went to tour San Marco’s Cathedral and many other buildings.
In order to get to our destination, we had to take a taxi, but
it was completely different from the New York taxi. Their taxis
are boats that take you from place to place instead of cars,
because there are no roads here.
When we finally reached our destination and saw the architecture
of the different buildings, everyone was in awe. These buildings
weren’t anything like we
have ever seen before. There was a part of Italy that reminded me of New York,
and it was definitely because of the pigeons. They were absolutely everywhere,
and if you buy corn kernels and feed it to the birds, they would come up to
you and/or jump on you. They were very friendly animals, and
these birds were not
scared of humans at all! I even had the opportunity of a pigeon using the bathroom
on me (it sounds more exciting than it actually is).
Every time I see a movie that takes place in Venice, I always see people riding
gondolas. Our team rode one today, and we even had the driver wear the striped
shirt with the black pants, just like the movies. I was a little skeptical
of getting on this small boat because I am a person that gets sea sick easily,
but
it wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be because the boat was pretty steady
for the most part. There was a time when I got a little nauseous, but I took
a deep breath, drank some water, and I calmed my body down. After that, I was
good to go. We had a nice time here, and this will be an experience that we
will never forget.
