Island University senior guard/forward Amber Wirth (Hastings,
Minn.)
was named
to the ESPN The Magazine Academic District I University Division
Second Team, as announced by College Sports Information Directors
of America (CoSIDA) officials on Thursday.
A media arts major with a minor in journalism, Wirth earned a 3.80
grade-point average during the Fall 2005 semester and has a 3.79
cumulative grade point average.
Wirth is ranked 16th in the nation and leads the Northeast Conference
in three-point field goals made (2.85 per game). She recently broke
the 1,000-point plateau in a road contest at Quinnipiac on December
7, becoming the 13th player in Long Island University history to
accomplish the feat. She is currently seventh on the all-time list
with 1,168 points.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete
must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better.
LIU is 8-12 overall and in sixth place in the NEC with a 6-5 mark.
The Blackbirds travel to Mount St. Mary’s on Thursday, Feb.
9 for a key conference match-up at 7:00 p.m. The Mount is fifth
in the NEC with a 7-4 record, one game ahead of LIU.
