Women's Basketball Falls to Arkansas State, 80-46

1/2/05 -- Junior Amber Wirth netted 10 points - including a 3-of-4 performance from 3-point range - but it was not enough as Long Island University dropped an 80-46 decision at Arkansas State on Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center. With the loss, the Blackbirds fall to 5-5 on the season.

The Lady Indians (6-6) scored 24 points off of LIU turnovers and outscored the Blackbirds 48-6 in the paint.

LIU led by three (11-8) before the the Lady Indians broke open the game, scoring the next 15 points. ASU ran off a 35-4 run to post a commanding 43-15 at the break. The Blackbirds shot just 20 percent (5-of-25) in the first stanza while committing 14 miscues.

The Lady Indians continued their hot shooting in the second half, connecting on 50 percent of their attempts against the LIU zone. Ali Carter paced ASU with 20 points, going 9-of-14 from the field. Zaneta Lane netted a career-best 16 points and Adrianne Davie registered 12 and 10 rebounds.

For the Blackbirds, forward Ravin Chase grabbed nine rebounds and added five points in her first game back from an ankle injury.
