10/24/05– Junior Selima Berisha was named the BigAppleSoccer.com Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for her performance last week. It was the second time that the forward has earned the distinction this season.

The Bellevue, Wash. native tallied two goals and assisted on the game-winner in LIU’s 3-2 victory over Wagner on Friday. The Blackbirds stand in second place in the Northeast Conference with a 5-1-1 record, 10-5-1 overall.

Berisha’s seven goals and four game-winners tie her for the league lead in each category, while her 17 points have her tied for third on the circuit. She leads LIU in those respective categories, and ranks fourth on the team in assists (3). Berisha’s second goal of the game moved her into third place on the Blackbirds’ all-time career goal-scoring list.

The Blackbirds wrap up the regular season this weekend, hosting FDU on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and Sacred Heart on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. At 6-0, Long Island is the only unbeaten and untied conference team at home this season.
