Selima Berisha was named the BigAppleSoccer.com Women’s
Soccer Player of the Week for her performance last week. It
was the second time that the forward has earned the distinction
this season.
The Bellevue, Wash. native tallied two goals
and assisted on the game-winner in LIU’s 3-2 victory
over Wagner on Friday. The Blackbirds stand in second place
in the Northeast Conference
with a 5-1-1 record, 10-5-1 overall.
Berisha’s seven goals and four game-winners tie her for
the league lead in each category, while her 17 points have her
tied for third on the circuit. She leads LIU in those respective
categories, and ranks fourth on the team in assists (3). Berisha’s
second goal of the game moved her into third place on the Blackbirds’ all-time
career goal-scoring list.
The Blackbirds wrap up the regular
season this weekend, hosting FDU on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and
Sacred Heart on Sunday at 1:00
p.m. At 6-0, Long Island is the only unbeaten and untied conference
team at home this season.
