Christina O'Connor named NEC Rookie of the Week

10/10/05-- Freshman Christina O’Connor was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. The midfielder from Venetia, Pa. scored the first two goals of her career in a pair of weekend wins over Robert Morris and St. Francis (PA). With the two triumphs, LIU improved to 6-0 at home this season.

In the win over the Colonials on Friday, O’Connor recorded the game-winner on a header off a feed from senior Meghan McCormick in 62nd minute. She opened the scoring on Sunday against St. Francis (PA), taking a McCormick cross and firing it past the Red Flash keeper just 31 seconds into the match. O’Connor is third on the team in goals and fifth in points (5).

The Blackbirds (8-5) are off to their best 13-game mark in program history and currently ride a three-match win streak. LIU travels to Monmouth on Friday, October 14.
