9/7/04 -- Junior Jackie McCormick on Monday was named Northeast Conference Player of the Week. The honor is the first bestowed on any Long Island University athlete this season.

The 5-9 forward from Liverpool, N.Y. drilled two game-winning goals in the first week of the 2004 campaign. McCormick scored in the 47th minute to lift the Blackbirds to a 1-0 victory over Utah Valley State in Las Vegas on August 28 and netted the game-winner in overtime to push LIU past Rider, 3-2 last Friday.

McCormick, a second team All-NEC honoree in 2003, leads the league with three goals and seven points. She has registered at least one point in each game this season.

The Blackbirds (2-1), off to their best start since the 1998 season, entertain the Temple Owls on Wednesday, September 8. Match time is set for 5:00 p.m.
