2/26/06 -- The Long Island University women's tennis team evened its spring season mark at 2-2 with an impressive 5-0 blanking of Hofstra on Friday evening at the Stadium Raquet Club in Bronx, N.Y.

Senior Jessica Loose (Scheessel, Germany) led the charge as she posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number one singles. Junior Merve Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) was impressive at the number two spot, defeating Stacey Kent, 6-0, 7-5, while also teaming with senior Krystina Bachner (Penfield, N.Y.) for an 8-3 doubles victory. Bachner also won her singles match, 6-2, 6-0.

Freshmen Ashley Harvey and Amy Hosotsuji were victorious in number five and six singles, respectively. Harvey turned in a dominant performance, not losing a single game in her 6-0, 6-0, straight-set win. Hosotsuji won the first set, 6-1, then fell in a tiebreak, 6-7 (5-7) in the second. The frosh was up to the challenge, taking charge in the third-set tiebreak for a 10-1 victory.

The tennis team continues its season March 3 with a pair of matches. The Blackbirds take on Fordham at 3:30 p.m. at St. Peter's, then take on the host Peacocks at 7:00 p.m.
