LIU Falls to No. 14 Rollins, 7-2

3/15/06 -- The Blackbirds women’s tennis team continued their spring tour, dropping a 7-2 decision to No.14 Rollins College on Wednesday.

Freshman Ashley Harvey (Randallstown, Md) defeated Anastasiya Shevchenko, 6-3, 6-3 in the No.4 singles position. At the sixth spot, senior Claudia Arteaga (Cali, Columbia) took Melanie Beck to three games (3-6, 6-0, 11-9) to capture the Blackbirds' second point.

Northeast Conference Player-of-the-Week Merve Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) fell in the second singles slot, 6-2, 6-1. Bachner notched a 6-0 victory in the first set against the Tars’ Soni Bernal. Bernal battled back, posting 6-2 and 6-4 wins, taking the win at No. 3 singles.

LIU will wrap up its Flordia competition, taking on Manhattan and Radford on Thursday.
