2/27/2005 -- Long Island University fell to Army, 6-1, on Saturday and 4-3, to Rutgers on Sunday afternoon in women’s tennis action.

On Saturday, junior Kristina Bachner (Penfield, N.Y.) recorded the lone win for the Blackbirds at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 2-6, 10-8, over Jennifer Segar.

On Sunday against Rutgers, Merve Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) and Ellen Anolin (Flushing, N.Y.) defeated Alina Balasa and Helen Magomendova, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles. LIU was awarded the default to secure the doubles point and take a 1-0 advantage into singles play.

In singles action, Koksal suffered her second loss of the season at No. 1 to Katrina Elder-Bush, 6-3, 6-2. Apostu-Efremov took Anela Dujsic to three sets at No. 2 singles before falling 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. LIU was awarded two default points at #4 and 5 singles, but still fell, 4-3, to the Scarlet Knights.

The women are back in action on Friday, March 4th traveling to Hofstra. Match time is set for 8:00 pm.
