Long Island University registered a 7-0 triumph over Manhattan
Friday afternoon in the first action of the spring season.
LIU captured all six singles matches and the doubles point.After
dropping the first set, sophomore Merve Koksal (Ankara, Turkey)
bounced back to record a 1-6, 6-3, 10-2 victory at the top
singles spot.
Senior Veronica Apostu-Efremov
(Bucharest, Romania and junior
Krystina Bachner (Penfield, N.Y.) posted straight sets
wins --6-0, 6-0 -- at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles postions,
respectively.
Claudia Arteaga (Cali, Columbia) was a 6-0, 6-1
victor in the fourth spot. Ellen Anolin (Flushing, N.Y.)
and Xenia Roman (Poza Rica, Veracruz) also recorded straight
set triumphs.
Apostu-Efremov and Bachner continued their dominance from the
fall, grabbing an 8-1 victory at the No. 1 doubles spot. Artega
teamed with Andrea Pertab (W. Ozone Park, N.Y.) for a win in
the second position. Roman and Jasmine Grays concluded the
sweep with an 8-0 shutout at No. 3 doubles.
