4/24/05 -- Second-seeded Long Island University saw its Northeast Conference Tennis Championships hopes dashed for the second straight year, falling to top seed Quinnipiac, 4-1 in the final on a cold and windy afternoon at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Winsor, N.J.

The Blackbirds dropped the doubles point following a valiant effort. At the top flight, Veronica Apostu-Efremov (Bucharest, Romania) and Krystina Bachner (Penfield, N.Y.) lost an 8-6 decision to Gabby Pasternak and Tina Hoang. The Bobcats grabbed the first point of the match when Danielle Rodriguez and Amy Sarrazin topped Andrea Pertab (S. Ozone Park, N.Y.) and Claudia Arteaga (Cali, Colombia), 8-2.

In singles play, the Rodriguez made quick work of Xenia Roman (Vera Cruz, Mexico), 6-0, 6-0, in the sixth spot and Pasternak ousted Merve Koksal (Ankara, Turkey), 6-3, 6-3, in the top position. Quinnipiac clinched the championship when Liz Axler bested Arteaga, 7-5, 6-3.
