-- Long Island won three of its singles matches
in straight sets en route to a 5-2 Northeast Conference victory
over Sacred Heart at the National Tennis Center in Flushing,
N.Y.
Sophomore Merve Koksal (Ankara,
Turkey) notched a 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) victory at first singles over
Lauren
Galatie and senior Veronica Apostu-Efremov (Bucharest, Romania)
won, 6-1, 6-2 at second singles over Pam Pillo.
Junior Krystina Bachner (Penfield,
N.Y.) posted a 7-5, 6-2 triumph at third singles over Darcey
Shoop and sophomore Xenia Roman (Vera Cruz, Mexico) won, 6-7
(1-7),
6-3, 10-3 over Jessica Schnell.
Apostu-Efremov and Bachner rallied
from a 6-3 deficit at first doubles to win, 8-6, over Galatie
and Pillo. Koksal and junior Claudia Arteaga (Cali, Colombia)
recorded an 8-2 triumph at second doubles.
LIU (9-5, 4-0 NEC) had its matches
Saturday against Monmouth and Sunday against St. John's postponed
due to inclement weather. The Blackbirds are home Friday against
Stony Brook, beginning at 3:00 pm. |
