10/15/04 -- Long Island University registered a 7-0 triumph at Saint Peter's this afternoon in opening day action of the Peahen Fall Classic in Jersey City, N.J. With the victory, the Blackbirds raised their season record to 2-2.

LIU captured all six singles matches and the doubles point. Sophomore Merve Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) and senior Veronica Apostu-Efremov (Bucharest, Romania) rolled to victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots, respectively. Koksal recorded a 6-3, 6-1 victory and Apostu-Efremov won, 6-3, 6-1. Junior Krystina Bachner (Penfield, N.Y.) posted a straight sets win 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to remain unbeaten (4-0) on the season.

Also recording wins were senior Ellen Anolin -celebrating her 22nd birthday- at the fourth position with a 6-0, 6-0 win and newcomer Claudia Arteaga (Cali, Columbia) was a 6-0, 6-1 victor.

Apostu-Efremov and Bachner improved to 4-0 with an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Jasmine Grays and Andrea Pertab notched an 8-4 win.
