route to a 7-0 triumph over Rhode Island at the National
Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
Sophomore Merve Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) rolled to a 6-1, 6-0
victory at first singles over Erin Fleming and senior Veronica
Apostu-Efremov (Bucharest, Romania) notched a 6-0, 6-1 triumph
at No. 2 singles for LIU (10-5) over Rave Annaporeddy.
Junior Krystina Bachner (Penfield, N.Y.) upended Whitney Squires,
6-1, 6-2, at third singles and junior Claudia Arteaga (Cali,
Colombia) won, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles over Emily Connant.
Senior Ellen Anolin (Flushing, N.Y.) was a 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) winner
at fifth singles against Meredith Haas with sophomore Xenia Roman
(Vera Cruz, Mexico) posting a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles
vs. Lindsey Casagrande.
Apostu-Efremov and Bachner defeated Fleming and Squires, 8-2,
at first doubles, and Koksal and Anolin topped Annaporeddy and
Connant, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles. Junior Andrea Pertab (South Ozone
Park, N.Y.) and senior Jasmine Grays (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.)
bested Amy Resnick and Bridgette La Flamme, 8-2, at third doubles.
LIU battles Seton Hall on Sunday, beginning at 11:00 am at the
National Tennis Center. |
