  • Believe it or not, its that time again. Time to plan for the 78th Commencement on the Brooklyn Campus, which will convene on Thursday May 15, 2008. Professor Judith Stuart and Provost Gale Haynes have passed the mace on to me. I am proud and happy to continue this great tradition as the macebearer. But I need your help to work as marshals for this very special and beautiful event. I have been working Commencement as a marshal since 1998 and I can tell you firsthand that being with the students at this time is a rewarding experience. You truly get to celebrate and honor all the work the students (and you) have put into their education.

Commencement exercises are conducted on the athletic field and require that faculty, administration and staff work together to make it an organized and dignified event. From the perspective of those of us who plan this event, the faculty and staff marshals who volunteer their services are the backbone of the proceedings. Volunteering to be a marshal means you will be assigned a position which will aid in the facilitation of the ceremony. You are also requested to attend a Commencement information sessions which will take place on May 13 & May14(times and locations to be confirmed).

Please consider contributing to the Commencement effort. It really is a beautiful day for all of us. Volunteer your services by filling in your name, title, department and extension, and then forwarding this memo to Cris Gleicher, Associate Director of the University Honors Program, Pratt Bldg. Room 310. Thank you. I look forward to working with all of you in May.
