  • Welcome to the Dance Department!

I am delighted that you have decided to investigate the Brooklyn Campus Dance Department.  Located just ten minutes from downtown Manhattan, we currently offer two degrees in Dance- the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Fine Arts – taught by the finest dance professionals in New York City.  Detailed information about the programs is available here; however, if you cannot find answers to a specific question or just would like to learn more, please do not hesitate to contact me at (718) 246-6337 or by email at dhash@liu.edu.

This has been a year of exciting change for us. Last fall, Judith Stuart, the Founding Chair of the Dance Department, announced her retirement after over forty years of service to the University.  Professor Stuart will be taking her leave from teaching full time at the end of the summer 2007 (though we all know she won’t be able to stay away!). As the new Chair of the Department I will do my utmost to uphold the high standards she established as the Department continues to grow.

I am joined in this new endeavor by Keith Thompson, newly appointed Assistant Professor of Dance.  Professor Thompson is a highly respected choreographer, teacher, and dancer who has performed internationally with the Trisha Brown Company and currently tours with the Bebe Miller Company and with Creach/Company.  Prior to coming to LIU, Professor Thompson served on the faculties of Shenandoah University, George Mason University and Temple University. We are delighted that he has decided to join LIU.

In addition to the changes in faculty, we also graduated the largest class of Dance majors ever in 2007, many of whom have already taken the first steps towards establishing themselves as professional dancers, and established the first annual Winter Concert, photos of which you will be able to see throughout this site.

We here at the LIU Brooklyn Campus Dance Department are dedicated to cultivating disciplined, creative, intelligent artists.  Are you up for the challenge?

Please enjoy searching our web site, and once again, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Hope to see you at the auditions,

    Sincerely,

    Associate Professor Dana Hash-Campbell
