The English Club

This organization brings together students who enjoy writing poetry and fiction, listening to others read their work, and exploring the literary scene in New York City.  In the past, the English Club has hosted open-mike poetry nights, film screenings, and field trips to readings at such local venues as the Nuyorican Poets Café, Harlem World Beat Poetry Space, and the 92nd
Street Y.

You don't have to be an English major to participate.  The English Club is open to everyone and thrives on the enthusiasm of its members.  If you want to meet other students who share your interests in literature and culture, join the English Club.

Members of the English Club have recently attended a poetry slam at Nuyorican Poets Café, hosted a screening of the film Sankofa, taken a field trip to Columbia University Press, attended readings by Christina Garcia, Francisco Goldman, & Zadie Smith, at 92nd Street Y, and participated in an open-mike reading of their own work after a reading by Tracie Morris.

Watch the English Department blog (The Longest Island) for announcements of upcoming events.
