INFORMATION FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN MAJORING
IN ANTHROPOLOGY
HELLO! In order to help prospective anthropology majors negotiate
their way through our complicated department, we want to provide
you with some information. We offer three different but related
majors in our department.
The requirements for completing the sociology and anthropology
majors are almost identical (Social Work has its own requirements
- please ask for the brochure on that program if you are interested).
However, here's what you need to know to major in anthropology:
All anthropology faculty have done field research with people
from cultures different from their own and bring a cross-cultural
perspective to everything they teach. Almost all of the courses
in our department are listed as both SOC and ANT courses (SWK
social work classes are mostly separate). SOC and ANT courses
count for EITHER major and may be taught in some semesters by
an anthropologist and in some by a sociologist.
So -- If you want to pursue anthropology or be an anthropology
major, REGISTER FOR THE ANT COURSE NUMBER AND SECTION of your
course.
The anthropology side of our department is now growing! We have
hired a brand new faculty member, and we want to expand what we
offer to students interested in this field.
