The undergraduate program
in Chemistry has been designed to providea balanced education for
those students who plan to pursue professionalcareers in chemistry
or allied areas either immediately after attainmentof the B.S. degree
or after further graduate training. Students completingthe curriculum
recommended by the American Chemical Society may have theirdegrees
certified by that organization. Students preparing to teach inthis
field on the secondary level should consult the School of Educationfor
additional requirements. Chemistry majors are encouraged to developspecific
career objectives while pursuing undergraduate studies. Departmental
advisers will assist students in exploring career possibilities
and indevising a personalized plan of study that will best prepare
them for theircareer goals.

e.g., Chemistry 531, 541, 581, 186 and/or187 are suggested for the
senior year. Honors Study (Chemistry 195, 196) is recommended
for students with a cumulativeGPA of 3.00 and GPA of 3.25 in the
major.
