THE B.S. IN DANCE

  • modern techniques
  • ballet
  • world dance
  • music for dance
  • improvisation and choreography
  • dance history
  • kinesiology for the dancer

The B.S. program has attracted many new dancers to LIU who will be taking advantage of the opportunity to pair their studies in dance with various minors in programs listed, but not limited to, those below:

 Pre-physical therapy

The B.S. in Dance will prepare the student who successfully completes the requirements to enter the dance profession with preparation to apply to graduate school for a Masters degree in Physical Therapy.  Students will complete the Dance Department requirements as well as the requirements as defined by the Physical Therapy Program at LIU to be eligible to apply to that graduate program;

Business, management specifically, with a view towards arts management and/or setting up and managing one’s own dance-related business;

Media, in which a student will learn the tools of the world of video and/or photography and apply them to dance.  They will also have the opportunity to study digitally designed choreography programs, and experiment with their own designs;

            Theatre.  There is a natural connection between dance and theatre.  Students who would like to apply their dance training to theatre performance, choreography and/or directing, may do so in this specially designed minor.

            Anthropology.  The study of world cultures almost invariably focuses on the dance.  With this minor, students might expand their studies to prepare themselves for graduate research and travel.

            B.S. Dance students have the opportunity to take various dance electives and perform in campus events.
