The cover
artist for this issue was Elizabeth Bates, a native of Arkansas,
who at the time was working toward her bachelor of fine
arts degree (May 2005) in the Art Department. Her work explores
the intersection of documentary and fine art photography.
The cover image as well as the images in the eight-page
portfolio between pages 60 and 61 are from a series examining
characters at a Manhattan flea market.
