The
English Department holds an annual Open House to celebrate
current majors, alumni, and faculty and to introduce
the department to interested students from across the
campus. The event is an opportunity for LIU students
and prospective students to learn more about the English
department and about the many careers open to English
majors and minors.
Participants include professors, graduate students,
undergraduate majors, alumni, and friends. Current faculty
are available to chat with students about their courses
and their research interests. English majors and Master's
degree candidates contribute student perspectives, and
alumni speak about their many and varied careers.
Senior
alumni attendees have included several World War II
veterans who began their college careers before the
current campus was built and went on to work in journalism,
business and education. More recent graduates have spoken
of their experiences as teachers, professional writers,
and novelists.

The
Open House provides students with the opportunity to
introduce themselves to faculty, propose new courses,
and do some crucial networking.Faculty reconnect with
former students, catch up with colleagues, and introduce
themselves to new and potential majors.
Above all, the Open House is a chance for the department's
talented and diverse constituencies to enjoy a few hours
of relaxed talk and laughter together in the midst of
a busy academic year.
We sincerely hope you will join us next time.
Watch
the English Department blog (The
Longest Island) for the announcement of the
next Open House.
