Dr. Yafeng XIA is an assistant professor of East Asian and Diplomatic history at Long Island University , Brooklyn . He is the author of Negotiating with the Enemy: U.S.-China Talks during the Cold War, 1949-72 ( Bloomington : Indiana University Press, 2006) . He has also published articles in such publications as Diplomacy & Statecraft , Journal of Cold War Studies, among others. He is currently working on a monograph on PRC's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tentatively titled Bury the Diplomacy of Humiliation: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 1949-1956 . From 1995 to1998, he was second secretary at the Chinese Embassy in Washington D. C.
