Dr. Yafeng XIA is an associate professor of East Asian and Diplomatic history at Long Island University, Brooklyn. He is the author of Negotiating with the Enemy: U.S.-China Talks during the Cold War, 1949-72 (Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 2006).  He has also published articles in such publications as Diplomacy & Statecraft, Journal of Cold War Studies, The Chinese Historical Review, The International History Review, Diplomatic History, among others. He is currently working on a monograph on the early history of the PRC’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tentatively titled Burying the “Diplomacy of Humiliation”: New China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 1949-1956. From 1995 to1998, he was second secretary at the Chinese Embassy in Washington D. C.
