WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES?

The Long Island University Psychological Services Center provides free and confidential personal counseling to students and support staff of the university. All services are provided by doctoral candidates in Clinical Psychology who are supervised by licensed psychologists.

WHO COMES TO PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES?
People come for counseling because they want someone objective to talk to about personal issues.

Some of the issues that students have been helped with include:

  • personal issues getting in the way of school-work
  • stress over family, school, or social problems
  • loneliness or depressed moods
  • problems in relationships
  • disturbing memories of sexual or physical abuse
  • issues of adjusting to a new culture
  • a variety of other personal issues

HOW CONFIDENTIAL IS IT?

All services provided by Long Island University Psychological Services, unless there is a clear danger to self or other, are strictly confidential.
This means that unless a clear danger exist no one in the university outside of the Psychological Services’ staff is aware of who uses our services nor does anyone outside our staff have access to any information that is discussed. Neither your professors nor administrators would know that you come here.

SHOULD I TELL A FRIEND?

Even if you’re not struggling with personal issues right now, you may well have a friend who is feeling stressed out or unhappy from personal issues. It could be really helpful to let them know that there’s a place on campus where they can talk with someone objective in a supportive and confidential environment.

We’re in room L36 in the Pharmacy Building (Around the corner from 3rd floor entrance to the library)
We are open:
Monday: 9 am to 4 pm
Tuesday 11 am to 4 pm
Thursday 9 am to 4 pm
