    • The students will be able to do the following at the completion of the Program:

      1. Apply critical thinking skills within the context of professional social work practice.

      2. Practice generalist social work within the values and ethics of the social work profession and with an understanding of and respect for the positive value of diversity.

      3. Be self reflective and demonstrate the professional use of self.

      4. Understand various forms and mechanisms of oppression and discrimination and the strategies of change that advance social and economic justice in communities in general and the extremely socially and economically diverse Brooklyn and greater New York area in particular.

      5. Understand the history of the social work profession and its current structures and issues and their relationship to the needs and circumstances of various communities.

      6. Apply the knowledge and skills of generalist social work to practice with systems of all sizes, and social circumstances.

      7. Apply knowledge of bio psycho social variables that affect individual development and behavior, and use theoretical frameworks to understand the interactions among individuals and between individuals and social systems.

      8. Skillfully analyze the impact of social policies on various members and segments of the general population and urban communities such as Brooklyn and the greater New York area in particular.

      9. Evaluate research studies and apply findings to practice, and, under supervision, to evaluate their own practice interventions and those of other relevant systems.

      10. Use communication skills appropriately, effectively and differentially with a variety of client populations, colleagues, and members of the community.

      11. Learn to access and use supervision appropriately and within the context of generalist practice.

      12. Function within the structure of organizations and the vast service delivery systems of Brooklyn and the New York area, and under supervision, seek necessary organizational changes when necessary on behalf of the extremely diverse client population.
