Welcome...
The Brooklyn Queens Regional Bilingual/ESL Education Technical Assistance Center (B/Q Regional BETAC) is a collaboration of the School of Education at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus and the New York State Education Department. B/Q BETAC is located at 9 Hanover Place in Downtown Brooklyn, NY.
The B/Q BETAC provides professional development, resources, information and technical assistance to English Language Learners (ELLs) and their families and teachers throughout New York City, with emphasis on regions within Brooklyn and Queens. Our goal is to aid in the improvement of services for English Language Learners of all backgrounds throughout New York City and the State. Resting upon the mission of Long Island University, “to open the doors of the city and the world to men and women of all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds who wish to achieve the satisfaction of the educated life and to serve the public good,” the School of Education and its B/Q BETAC work collaboratively to prepare an ethnically, linguistically, socio-economically and academically diverse student body to serve the New York City and New York State public schools.
The professional development, resources, information and community-building initiatives implemented by the B/Q BETAC integrate issues of language and culture, and challenge educators to develop innovative approaches to improving services for English Language Learners.
