This Dual Degree program leads to both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Education degree and eligibility for initial NYS certification in both Childhood Education and Teaching Students with Disabilities, grades 1-6. It prepares students to teach in both inclusive and self-contained special education classrooms at the elementary level.
The program of study consists of 28 credits at the undergraduate level and 33 credits at the graduate level. Completion of the program usually requires two additional semesters beyond the time it normally takes to complete an undergraduate degree in Teaching and Learning. Students apply for admission to the program during the Teaching and Learning block of the undergraduate program (usually the first semester of their senior year).
Students also must complete a 30-credit undergraduate concentration in one of the Liberal Arts & Sciences. Optional extensions are available for students interested in teaching in middle schools or in bilingual classrooms.
Students graduating from the program are eligible for NYS Certification once they have passed all required portions of the New York State Teacher Certification Exam (NYSTCE). The TAL Certification Officer assists students in applying for certification when all requirements are met. |
