This program, which is only for individuals with prior teaching certification, leads to the Bilingual Education Extension, qualifying students to teach in their original certification area in bilingual classrooms. Students completing the program are eligible for extension once they have passed the Bilingual Education Assessment (BEA) in the target language of instruction.
The following options are also available to students with prior certification:
Individuals without prior teaching certification who are interested in bilingual education may pursue the M.S.ED. leading to 1st initial certification along with the optional Bilingual Extension in one of the following areas: Childhood Urban Education | Early Childhood/Childhood Urban Education | Adolescence Urban Education | Teaching Urban Children with Disabilities | Teaching Urban Adolescents with Disabilities.
Courses are scheduled in the late afternoon or evening. Fieldwork is required for most courses.

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- 2.75 minimum undergraduate GPA
- Initial NYS teaching certification
- Two letters of recommendation
- Statement of professional goals
