Eligible Non-Citizen:
Someone who is not a US citizen but is eligible for federal student aid because he/she is a permanent resident of the United States, or holds refugee or asylum status. Non-citizens who hold student visas or exchange visitor visas are not eligible for federal student aid.

Enrollment Status:
This status is based on the student's full-time (12 credits or more per term) or part-time (up to 11 credits per term) enrollment. Most financial aid programs require at least part-time enrollment status.

Entitlement:
Entitlement programs generally are funded by taxes collected by the federal and state governments. In New York State, it includes the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). For students attending colleges or universities in the United States, the Federal Pell Grant Programs is also considered an entitlement program. Students apply for these programs independently (using the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA), and receive award notices directly from the agencies involved.

Expected Family Contribution (EFC):
The amount a family is expected to contribute to a student's education, as calculated by a federal needs analysis system, based on information provided on the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA. The EFC is calculated based on family earnings, net assets, savings, size of family and number of students in college.
