Student Responsibilities:
Students who receive University-funded awards are expected to
maintain good academic standing for all the terms of their award,
and must also apply for financial aid every year within stated
deadline dates.
Maintaining good academic standing includes, for most programs,
a minimum 3.0 cumulative average. See the charts on this website
that outline the Undergraduate Scholarship and Grant Programs
and the Awards for Continuing Undergraduates and for Graduate
Students , for additional information on the academic standards
required for these programs.
The federal government's Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA) must be completed each year within stated deadline
dates. Without FAFSA information, no L.I.U.-funded awards may
be given. For eligible students, actual TAP and/or Federal Pell
Grant Awards must be received by the University by the start
of the spring term. Otherwise, scholarship assistance will be
canceled for the spring semester. If, during the same semester,
the student reimburses the University for the equivalent of the
TAP and/or Federal Pell Grant awards that were not received,
the University scholarship or grant will be authorized.
The University urges all students to become very familiar with
all the guidelines and requirements that surround their University-funded
scholarship and grant. To avoid disappointment and to help in
planning funding options for their college years, it is most
important that every student knows in advance what is required
of them as a scholarship holder. We hope that our scholarship
and grant recipients will take advantage of all of the information
provided under the General Guidelines for Undergraduate Scholarships
and Grants available in this website.
