Tax Relief - Options to Relieve Some of a Family's Tax Burden

The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 was the first time that college students and their families saw a tangible difference in reducing taxes they owe with the dollars they spend on educational costs. Several tax relief laws have been enacted since that time, and families who pay taxes, are urged to read about these in the various publications provided by the Internal Revenue Service , particularly "IRS Publication 970 (2004), Tax Benefits for Education." , and to consult their tax preparer. We are providing this summary for our students as an introduction to the many options available.
