Andrew Irvine – Director of Senior Studies and Comparative Religion
Andrew Irvine returned to Global College as Assistant Professor of Comparative Religion and Director of Senior Studies in fall 2005. Andrew grew up in Australia and graduated from the University of Sydney in 1990, with a BA (magna cum laude) in English literature. He worked for the ecumenical movement in Australia, raising funds for community development partners and emergency relief, and creating educational materials on issues including "Third World" tourism. In 1993, he began master's studies in religion and theology at Boston University, and eventually earned a doctorate from BU in 2002. His dissertation was on Latin American liberation theology. From 2001 to 2004 he served in various capacities with the Friends World Comparative Religion and Culture program. In academic years 2001-2002 and 2002-2003, he was the traveling Director of the CRC program and went with the students to all CRC locations in Taiwan, Thailand, India, Nepal, Greece, Rome and Turkey.
Kathleen Modrowski – Director of North America and European Studies
Kathleen Modrowski is Director of North American and European Studies at Global College, where she has been a member of the faculty since 1988. Kathleen studied in the United States and France. She received her B.A. in History and Literature from the University of Toledo, Ohio. In Paris, she received her M.A. at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) where she majored in cultural anthropology specializing in the Arab society of North Africa. She lived in Tunisia for three years doing advanced research on the economic consequences of sedentarization among Bedouin tribes of the Sahara. Kathleen complemented her studies in cultural anthropology with training as a visual anthropologist learning documentary film and photography in France and in the United States. Since 1994 she has worked in human rights education with Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights Education (PDHRE), where she is currently Education Project consultant and member of the Board of Directors. Kathleen has carried out numerous training programs in popular human rights education in countries including Senegal, Mali, Turkey, France and the United States. She has developed local programs on human rights and sustainable development. Her research includes work on popular human rights education, including the right to health and traditional medicine and experiential education.
