SCHOOL OF NURSING
Whether your interest lies in working at the bedside in
a hospital or nursing home as a staff nurse, in the community
as a visiting nurse or a public health nurse, in a clinic
or private practice as a nurse practitioner, in a health
care facility as a nurse executive, or teaching nursing in
a college or university, the School of Nursing offers programs
that can help you meet your personal and professional goals.
Over the past 50 years the nursing program has gone from
providing registered nurses with the opportunity to earn
a baccalaureate degree to a full-fledged School of Nursing
with programs that address the needs of those just entering
the nursing profession to those seeking preparation for advanced
practice. Today the graduate nursing program offers
an accelerated Master of Science (MS) degree for the graduate
of an associate degree-nursing program, a MS from the nurse
executive program, a MS degree or post-MS certificate
from the adult, family or geriatric nurse
practitioner programs and a post-MS certificate
from the nurse educator program.
The School of Nursing programs are approved by New York
State Education Department and are accredited by the
Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Accelerated Master of Science
This program is for the registered nurse who has an Associate
Degree in Nursing and whose professional goal is advanced
practice as an adult nurse practitioner or as a nurse executive. By
combining the baccalaureate and master’s degrees,
the student is able to complete the course of study with
11 fewer credits than would be required for each degree
individually.
