DOCTOR OF PHYSICAL THERAPY PROGRAM

ADVISEMENT

Physical Therapy Advisement Program (PTAP)

The Division of Physical Therapy is committed to providing equal opportunity to all students on the Brooklyn Campus. The Division recognizes the importance and need for constant and direct advisement and recruitment of undergraduate Long Island University students.
PTAP will offer LIU undergraduates curricular, professional, and admissions advisement, as well as peer-related experiences, but does not define a particular course of study. Instead, students interested in preparing for a career in physical therapy will have the flexibility to choose any of the academic majors at the Brooklyn Campus and they must fulfill all of the requirements for a baccalaureate degree in their chosen major. PTAP will be administered by the Division of Physical Therapy. Each participating student will be assigned an advisor from the Division of Physical Therapy.

Students interested in physical therapy may register with the PTAP at any point in their undergraduate education. Throughout each academic year, students who are participating in the PTAP program will be invited to:

  • Receive individual academic guidance from an assigned member of the physical therapy faculty or administration.
  • Observe currently running physical therapy courses.
  • Attend Physical Therapy Club meetings.
  • Attend and assist in the planning of Physical Therapy month (October) activities.
  • Attend brown bag seminars that are designed to allow students to explore areas related to physical therapy or health care that are not included in the professional course of study.
  • Receive assistance in securing volunteer hours required for admission to the program.
  • Attend meetings each semester to meet other PTAP students, physical therapy students, and to discuss matters important to the profession of Physical Therapy.
  • Attend seminars coordinated by the Division of Physical Therapy to assist academic preparation including improving study skills and test taking.
