Marshall Hagins , PT, PhD, OCS

Marshall Hagins is a tenured Associate Professor of Physical Therapy in the School of health Professions . He holds a PhD, Master of Arts, and Bachelor of Science degrees, all obtained from New York University (2001,1994, 1988, respectively). Dr. Hagins is also a certified manual therapist (University St. Augustin, Fl.) and a board certified specialist in orthopedics (OCS). Primary clinical experience is in the area of rehabilitation of the injured dancer. Teaching responsibilities at Long Island University are primarily focused on orthopedic patient management and research theory and methods. Dr. Hagins is a Research Associate and Senior Clinical Instructor at the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries and is the physical therapist for the Mark Morris Dance Group. Dr. Hagins is the recipient of two grants from the National Institute of health examining breath control during lifting tasks and measurement of physical activity. He is also currently performing research on the biomechanics of dance injuries during jumping tasks. Dr. Hagins is the editor of Dance Medicine Resource Guide, (2nd.Ed., Ryan Pub, Andover N.J. ) and is an editorial board member of the Journal of Dance Medicine and Science. Dr. Hagins has published in peer-reviewed journals on issues related to lumbar stability and clinical measurements, and has presented at the national and international level on topics related to Dance Medicine/Science.
