The University
The Brooklyn Campus is the urban center of Long Island University, the eighth
largest, private, multi-campus University in the nation. Founded in 1926,
this urban oasis occupies 11 acres of shaded courtyards, state-of-the-art
facilities and historic buildings in the heart of a rejuvenated downtown
Brooklyn. One of the fastest-growing institutions of higher learning in the
New York metropolitan area, the Brooklyn Campus offers nearly 11,000 students
more than 110 undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs. Its cultural
diversity, innovative academic programs, sports teams, and landscaped campus
make the Brooklyn Campus a model or urban education.
The Community
Many of Brooklyn’s richest cultural and historic attractions are easily
accessible from the campus, including the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Academy
of Music, the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, the Public Library and the Brooklyn
Children’s Museum. The Fulton Shopping Mall, many restaurants and fast
food establishments, MetroTech Center, several banks and the Brooklyn Hospital
are located in close proximity to the campus.
Manhattan is only a short subway ride away. Most subway lines stop near the
campus. A Greyhound Bus station and a Long Island Rail Road station are within
walking distance. Bus service (public transportation) to all areas of Brooklyn
and Queens is also accessible nearby.
The downtown Brooklyn area is home to Borough Hall and a very extensive legal
community, including the Municipal Building, federal and state court buildings
and the Brooklyn Law School. Several institutions of higher education are also
located in the downtown Brooklyn area. They include: Polytechnic University,
Pratt Institute, New York Technical College, St. Francis College, The Institute
of Design, and St. Joseph’s College.
The Brooklyn Bridge, Prospect Park, Atlantic Center Shopping Mall,
Manhattan Bridge, Promenade, and Fort Greene Park- are also located within
walking distance from the campus.
Campus Housing Accommodations
Conolly Residence Hall provides three types of air-conditioned accommodations
for guests to choose from: standard rooms, suites, and apartments. A community
bathroom and lounge are located on each of the standard floors. Apartments
have a large living room/bedroom, a separate kitchen, and a private bathroom.
All accommodations are furnished with twin-sized beds, dressers, desks, chairs,
and closets. Depending on length of residency, extra amenities such as telephone
service, cable television, and internet access are also available.
Located on the first floor of the Residence Hall are two very comfortable lounges
where guests can relax and unwind. Visiting groups can reserve the classrooms
and conference room located on the 2nd floor. The Residence Hall Computer Room
has terminals with internet access that guests can use. A laundry room equipped
with coin-operated washers and dryers is located on the lower level of the
Residence Hall. Two privately owned parking facilities are only steps away
from the campus. The campus and Residence Hall are secured twenty-four hours
a day by Public
Safety personnel.
