Description
Advises pharmacy students in the professional phase of the entry-level program on all academic matters. Works closely with the Pharmacy Academic Advisor and the Director of Pharmacy Academic Services. He/she reports to the Assistant Dean for Academic and Student Affairs.
Responsiblities:
- Advises students enrolled in the professional phase of the program on all academic matters
- Communicates with students concerning matters of registration, progression, probation, dismissal, scholarships offerings, etc.
- Assists in the distribution and/or collection of applications for New York State Pharmacy Intern permits, licensing and other relevant forms.
- Assists in the organization and presentation of student development programs such as study skills, time management, stress management, and test-taking skills
- Assists in the organization of regularly scheduled open house days
- Assists in the organization and presentation of information regarding the admissions process into the professional phase of the program as well as new student orientation programs
- Serves as a resource for the Scholastic Committee, Scholarship, and other Faculty, Campus and University committees as required
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy Academic Services or Assistant Dean for Academic and Student Affairs
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Prior academic advising experience is highly desirable.

Description:
The Director of Continuing Education provides program and administrative leadership for non-credit continuing education services. Reports to the Provost and is responsible for leading the creation, development and implementation of non-credit programs for adult learners and organizational/corporate clients. The Director of Continuing Education is responsible for the following areas: policy formulation, quality assurance, noncredit curriculum development and management, planning, gathering and analyzing data for reports, program assessment, active participation in professional organizations, outreach and development of partnerships/articulation agreements. In addition, the Director of Continuing Education actively participates in college-wide committees as appropriate and leads the efforts of the Continuing Studies Advisory Council.
Qualifications:
Comprehensive knowledge of college administration and college policies and procedures for Continuing Education. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of developing Continuing Education and customized/contract training programs, including workforce development credit and non-credit; planning, monitoring, accounting and budgeting in an academic environment. Considerable knowledge of the Brooklyn community area organizations, trends in training/development and business/industry in the local market.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; organize and direct major work operations; work under pressure of deadlines; work effectively with international programs that require cultural and individual sensitivity and understanding (i.e., GIS, Logistics Management, and Environmental Technology). Minimum education: A Master’s degree or equivalent. Preferred: A Master’s degree or equivalent. Specifically, the position requires a Master’s degree preferably in Health Sciences, Business Administration or closely related field. Minimum Experience: Three to four years. Preferred: Five to eight years. Specifically, the position requires three years of experience in educational program planning/development, employee training or adult and continuing education programs.

Job Title: Associate Counsel

Description:
Reporting directly to the Vice President for Legal Services and University Counsel for Long Island University, the Associate Counsel will provide legal advice and counseling, focusing on labor and employee relations activities, with heavy emphasis on, but not limited to, union contract negotiations and administration, grievance and arbitration proceedings, and labor and employment related litigation. The Associate Counsel will work closely with the Human Resources department and the Provosts on each University campus.
Responsibility:
- Lead or assist with the collective bargaining of 16 union contracts.
- Represent the University in connection with employment related litigation and administrative hearings.
- Advise on union grievances.
- Represent the University in labor arbitrations.
- Policy creation and development; assist in implementation.
- Advice and train management employees on a variety of human resource related issues.
- Conduct internal investigations.
- Advise on payroll and benefit tax matters.
- Assist Human Resources with the oversight of workers compensation, unemployment insurance, and disability matters.
- Assist Human Resources in discipline, termination, and contract interpretation.
- Advise and counsel University administrators on practices to avoid or reduce employment related litigation risks.
- Advise and assist with respect to student related claims of discrimination based on protected status and/or failure to provide reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate Degree.
- At least five (5) years of collective bargaining experience (preferably as it relates to private sector institutions).
- Admission to practice law in New York State and Federal Courts in New York
- Experience with, and knowledge of, federal and state employment and labor laws and regulations.
- Experience with, and knowledge of, human resource trends, programs, policies, practices and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and proactively with a variety of individuals in a university setting across multiple campuses.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in Higher Education is preferred.

Job Title: Senior Assistant Director- Admissions

Description:
This position has a primary focus on new student (first-time to college and transfer) recruitment and admissions counseling. It incorporates a full range of admissions responsibilities including establishing and strengthening a recruitment territory, representing the University to secondary school counselors, prospective students and family members, evaluating admissions applications, and contributing to the planning and implementation of admissions projects and activities. The Sr. Assistant Director is responsible for practicing good student service principles and embracing a wholistic student development strategic plan. This position requires an understanding of best practices in higher education and admissions.
Sr. Assistant Director will act as an advocate, adviser, and counselor. The candidate is required to understand educational systems including but not limited to secondary schools (U.S. based and international); community colleges; associate and baccalaureate degrees; and post-bac/post doc programs. The Sr. Assistant Director is responsible for having a sensitivity to adolescent and college-student development.
Additionally, the Sr. Assistant Director will work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Admissions to establish an environment that is student centered and focused on practices and policies that advance the Undergraduate Admissions area. The Senior Assistant will help supervise the staff but all supervisory responsibility lies with the Director of Undergraduate Admissions.
Responsibilities:
• The candidate will represent the Brooklyn Campus’ on-campus programs at fairs, open houses, and other interested individuals and other recruitment events; overnight and long-term travel will be required.
• Participate in developing and implementing strategic enrollment goals for freshmen and transfer student enrollment
• Present to small or large groups; conduct student interviews; provide information and guidance to prospective students and their families.
• Assist with various marketing activities, applicant file evaluation (including secondary school, GED, and college transcripts), and a variety of administrative activities, as assigned.
• Serve as a liaison between the Office of Admissions, Academic Program Coordinators, and the community.
• Maintain a high level of customer service through contacts with prospective and current students; act as student agent, adviser and advocate from pre-enrollment through students’ first-year at LIU.
• Analyze effectiveness of recruitment activities and report on these activities to the Director of UG Admissions and the Dean of Admission.
• Promote and maintain favorable relationships with guidance counselors and other influencers of the admissions process.
• Represent the Brooklyn Campus during on-campus programs, open houses and other recruitment events.
• Willingness to learn, adapt and engage in professional development to assist with personal enlightenment and in return contribute to a “best-practices” office.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s preferred. 3-5 years experience in college admissions, recruitment or marketing; familiarity and understanding for educational systems; student development and/or counseling experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong customer service skills and experience; understanding of the dynamic modes of communication with students and parents (i.e. use of technology and social networking vs. traditional use of email, phone campaigns and letter campaigns.). Ability to handle multiple assignments and responsibilities at the same time. Ability to adapt to a fast paced work environment and with diverse populations. Ability and willingness to travel, in some cases, overnight for long periods of time; requires valid driver’s license. Financial literacy related to college-bound student education. Sense of humor, creativity, team-oriented work ethic; ability to work autonomously and with direction; flexibility for work schedules that may include evenings and weekends.
