Why
can't I use my cell phone in the library?
To
avoid disrupting the research and study of library users and to
minimize noise at service points, cellular telephones should be
turned off before entering the library.
Is
there somewhere quiet I can study?
The
reference room, room 308-1, inside the blue doors to the right
on the 3rd floor is an area designated for quiet study.
In general, students find that the fifth floor stack area is a
quiet study location.
Can
I eat/drink in the library?
Neither
food nor drink is allowed in the library. This policy discourages
rodents and insects, reduces damage to library materials, and
helps us keep the library cleaner for everyone.
Why
doesn't the library have my textbook?
Most
academic libraries do not generally buy textbooks. There are several
reasons for this: Most textbook titles are constantly being updated, making the
current edition out-dated in a brief period of time. The
cost of buying every textbook for each class on campus would seriously
diminish the library's ability to buy other books and materials
important for research. Please note that individual professors
sometimes put a copy of their course textbook on reserve.
What
if the book I want is located in another library?
The
Interlibrary Loan Department, located on the 4th floor
of the Library provides text and document delivery for items not
owned by the Brooklyn Campus Library. Users must present a valid
Long Island University ID card.
How
can I learn to use the online databases?
Consult
with a reference librarian at the Reference Desk on the 3rd floor
of the Library (LLC 308) to obtain help on a research project.
Library instruction is provided in the bibliographic instruction
classrooms on the 5th floor. Instruction for individuals
or small groups can be scheduled. For more information, please
