Millstones:(

User surveys find that excess noise continues to be the number one complaint about the library. Some of the noise is inherent in the architecture: the large window surfaces, the 4th-floor "balcony," and the loud ventilation system, all contribute to echoing and amplifying sound. But the noisy dot-matrix computer printers have been replaced. And methods for deadening the sound of the copying machines are being investigated, as is the possibility of constructing group-study rooms. Library staff and security officers are not shy about asking library patrons to quiet down. If everyone entering the library simply realizes that it is a place to study and to do research, perhaps the complaints will disappear.
