Re: Minimum GPA requirements
Greetings! I hope each of you is working hard and learning a lot. The transition from being a lay person to a health care professional is well under way for you. Through your course work and introductory clerkship experiences, I am sure you are gaining an appreciation of the rights and responsibilities of a licensed pharmacist.
The College has a responsibility to ensure its graduates are able to deliver patient- centered care and be competent in executing the duties of a pharmacist. One way to ensure this is for the student to complete the program in accordance with College’s policy on academic standards. Collectively the standards include:
- Completing the six-year Doctor of Pharmacy program in the projected time frame
- Completing the necessary required and elective courses in the sequence as presented
- Maintaining an overall minimum semester and overall GPA.
The minimum GPA of 2.0 as described in the current bulletin (for all courses attempted; as a cumulative GPA for all professional pharmacy courses; and as a semester or term GPA) is no longer in effect. As presented to you during Freshman Orientation, effective September 2007 the minimum GPA for all circumstances described above is 2.33. This requirement applies to progression, academic probation, and academic dismissal standards.
You are urged to become familiar with all of the Academic Standards set forth by the College. A full description can be found in the College Bulletin 2006-2008 pages 31-33.
