Information Resources for the Pharmacist and the Role of Pharmacy Informatics
in Reducing Medication Errors

PURPOSE:
This seminar will review the different types of literature available to the practicing
pharmacist with emphasis on the role of the Internet as an information resource
and a review of select electronic drug information databases. The role of pharmacy
informatics in reducing medication errors will also discussed.
OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of this program, the participant will be able to: 1. Review the
different types of literature available to the practicing pharmacist; 2. Describe the
step-wise approach of searching scientific literature; 3. Describe the role of the
Internet in answering drug information questions, criteria to consider when evaluating
a website, and select useful health-related websites; 4. Describe the features
of select electronic drug information resources and their utility for the practicing
pharmacist; 5. Describe the role of pharmacy informatics in reducing medication
errors..
Continuing Education Credits The College has assigned 5 hours (0.5
ACUs) for attendance and completion of the program evaluation at this seminar.
Statements of continuing pharmacy education credit will be mailed within six
weeks of the program.

Meets NYS Board C.E. requirement for Medication Error Prevention. This program
is available to Pharmacy Technicians.
