Information Resources for the Pharmacist and the Role of Pharmacy Informatics
in Reducing Medication Errors

PURPOSE:
This seminar will review the different types of literature available to the practicing pharmacist with emphasis on the role of the Internet as an information resource and a review of select electronic drug information databases. The role of pharmacy informatics in reducing medication errors will also discussed.

OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of this program, the participant will be able to: 1. Review the different types of literature available to the practicing pharmacist; 2. Describe the step-wise approach of searching scientific literature; 3. Describe the role of the Internet in answering drug information questions, criteria to consider when evaluating a website, and select useful health-related websites; 4. Describe the features of select electronic drug information resources and their utility for the practicing pharmacist; 5. Describe the role of pharmacy informatics in reducing medication errors..

Continuing Education Credits The College has assigned 5 hours (0.5 ACUs) for attendance and completion of the program evaluation at this seminar. Statements of continuing pharmacy education credit will be mailed within six weeks of the program.
