NWHIC is a service of the Office on Women's Health in the US Department of Health and Human Services. Also known as 4women.gov this site provides original health information on special topics like pregnancy, breastfeeding, body image, HIV/AIDS, girls’ health, heart health, menopause and hormone therapy, mental health, quitting smoking, and violence against women. It also includes thousands of health publications, statistics on women’s health, daily news on women’s health, and a calendar of women’s health events.

This site serves as a companion to the classic book on women’s health and sexuality "Our Bodies, Ourselves”. It is developed by the Boston Women’s Health Book Collective (BWHBC), a nonprofit, public interest women’s health education, advocacy, and consulting organization. The site is organized into 8 categories including Taking Care of Ourselves, Relationships and Sexuality, Sexual Health, Reproductive Choices, Child-Bearing, Growing Older, Medical Problems and Procedures, and Knowledge is Power. Book excerpts, supplementary content, web links, news, and other recommended resources are provided for each topic within a category.
