as 15-year editor of The New York Times editorial page, the UN, the arts,

National Reporting - Michael Grunwald, The Washington Post, for
his revelatory series on the Army Corps of Engineers' billion-dollar,
high-risk water projects.
Transportation Reporting - Scott McCartney, The Wall Street Journal,
for exposing the negligence of the FAA re: cockpits, pilot training and
air traffic control systems.
Local Television Reporting - Anna Werner, David Raziq and Chris
Henao, KHOU-TV in Houston, for their series, "Treading on Danger?"
credited by the government, the media and Ford with leading to the recall
of six million tires.
Network Television Reporting - John Larson, Allan Maraynes, Lynne
Dale, Neal Shapiro and Andy Lehren, NBC Dateline, for "The Paper
Chase," which reported on insurance-industry efforts to deny medical
benefits to accident victims.
Political Reporting - Virginia Ellis, Los Angeles Times, for exposing
