The 15-credit Advanced Certificate in Gerontology Administration (AGD) at the LIU-Brooklyn Campus SBPAIS MPA Program is designed to provide working professionals in agencies and organizations serving aging populations with the knowledge and skills needed to ensure effective service delivery to these populations. The certificate can be obtained through two different stand-alone tracks, unless noted otherwise. Also, all courses are graduate level courses. Track I only is approved by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) for the NYS Nursing Home Administrators Licensing Examination. Courses in the Track I certificate marked with * are required to sit for the New York State Nursing Home Administrators Licensing Examination. ote: all courses are graduate level courses.
AGD-Track I - LONG TERM CARE ADMINISTRATION (NYSHOH approved)
Required Foundation Course: (Three credits)
*PM 738 – Gerontology, Processes of Aging
Management Functions and Issues: (Select Four – 12 credits)
*MPA 602 – Human Resources Management
*MPA 613 – Health Systems Finance
*MPA 616 – Legal Aspects of Health
*PM 739 - Long Term Care Administration
Students already in the MPA Program, who are specializing in Health Administration (HAD) may earn an Advanced Certificate in Gerontology Administration–Track I in addition to the MPA degree by taking PM 730, PM 738, PM 739 and any one other HAD or AGD 700-level course. All HAD students are required to take PM 730, MPA 602, 613 and 616.
AGD - Track II - COMMUNITY AGING SERVICES AND ADMINISTRATION
Required foundation Courses: (Six credits)
PM 738 – Gerontology, Processes of Aging
PM 743 – Aging Policy and Services in the Community
Elective Courses: (Select three – Nine credits)
PM 744 – Bereavement
PM 745 – Health and Retirement Planning in Elder Care
PM 747 - Nutrition Policy across the Lifecycle
Students already in the MPA Program, who are specializing in Health Administration (HAD) may earn an Advanced Certificate in Gerontology Administration–Track II in addition to the MPA degree by taking PM 730, PM 738, PM 743 and any three other AGD electives from AGD Track II.
