B.S./M.S. in Accounting
Accounting professionals across the country agree that to meet the challenges
of the future, tomorrow's CPAs must be better prepared during their college
studies. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) has
overwhelmingly approved a proposal that will require 150 college-level semester
hours of study, including a bachelor's degree. Additionally, 38 states have
already passed legislation requiring 150 hours of education for CPA certification.
LIU's BS/MS program provides the opportunity for you to:
- Earn both your BS and MS in accounting or taxation in five years or less
of full-time study
- Receive a bachelor's degree upon completion of the undergraduate portion
of the program if you choose not to complete the entire program
- Become familiar with computer information systems hardware and software
through hands-on experience
- Participate in a series of workshops throughout your college studies,
stressing written and oral communication skills, analytical skills and personal
development
- Gain practical experience during a work internship in a public or corporate
accounting environment
The five-year curriculum enables students to add additional skills to their
portfolio while earning a master's degree. Those accounting majors who don't
plan to sit for the CPA examination can choose a four-year program. Internships
are built into the program to provide a skill-building experiential component.
