B.S.
IN MARKETING
The marketing major prepares
students for professional careers in a wide variety of marketing functions
within both business and not-for-profit organizations. Marketing
involves the study of new product development, marketing research, analysis
of distribution systems, determination of pricing policies, prediction
of consumer behavior, promotion of products and ideas, and business relationships. Careers include marketing research, product
management, advertising, public relations, corporate communications, and
sales. No other field in business, and few other professions, offers
as many different career possibilities as the field of marketing.
In addition to varied career
options, a marketing career will give you considerable responsibility and
it is an excellent preparation for upper management positions in all types
of organizations. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment
in the field of marketing is expected to grow by up to 35 percent through
the year 2010.
As a Marketing student at LIU,
you will develop the creative, analytical and communication skills necessary
to succeed in the marketing field. You
will also develop an understanding of promotion, distribution, buyer behavior
and market research. Marketing courses focus on integrating both theory
and practical applications, with an emphasis on hands-on projects. Required
coursework includes participation in a national advertising competition,
which has awarded students from Long Island University for the last several
years.
Recent graduates are pursuing
marketing careers at companies such as Sony Music, Grey Advertising,
and Maxim magazine.
