The minor in Information Systems
is designed to equip the student with a good background in programming
and information analysis and design. The student is given rigorous
instruction, including two programming languages and the tools
available to the analyst in order to handle the large variety
of problems that may be solved with the help of the computer.
The minor is self-contained, but some mathematics knowledge is
helpful. Students with little or no computer experience are advised
to take Computer Science 10 (Introduction to Computer Science
and Programming) in order to prepare themselves for the more rigorous
Computer Science 101 (Fundamentals of Computer Science).
The
Information Systems minor consists of five courses (15 credits),
which must include the following:
- CS 101 Fundamentals of Computer Science
- CS 117 Structured Program Design
- CS 130 Algorithms and Data Structures
- CS 156 Internet Programming
and a choice of one of the two following courses:
- CS 128 Information Systems Analysis and Design
- CS 148 Database I
