Welcome to the Brooklyn Campus’ English Summer Institute...

If you’re an incoming Brooklyn Campus freshman for the fall semester, have we got a great opportunity for you!
Devote four weeks this summer to sharpening your writing skills through our FREE, not-for-credit, dynamic English Summer Institute (ESI). This unique program is designed to help you develop stronger reading and writing skills, hone your critical thinking and discussion techniques, and assist your transition into college life, all of which will be important to your academic career at Long Island University and for many years to come.
In ESI you will be exposed to a variety of essays on a broad range of topics. You will be able to "brush up" on the mechanics and technical aspects of the English language in order to develop college writing proficiency. Extensive library, tutoring center & computer lab tours will complement class work and familiarize you with our on-campus resources. In addition, you will have the opportunity to retake the English Placement Examination and potentially move to a more advanced English class.
You will also have the opportunity to:
- Join small class groups led by exciting instructors and tutors!
- Become familiar with the Brooklyn Campus and all of its resources!
- Learn computer skills necessary for today’s college student!
- Get an edge on library research!
- Have fun and form friendships that will last your entire college experience!
Our ESI instructional team offers students great expertise from its wealth of experience as writers, professors, graduate students and world travelers. The team members, along with a committee of coordinators, represent many aspects of our diverse campus. Together, we are dedicated to ensuring that you have the most enriching summer, laying the foundation for a positive college experience!
